It looks like BIBLIOBABES is the popular favorite for our book club name. I thought “Happy Bookers” was hilarious (got my sense of humor from my dad, obviously!) and I had a great logo idea for “Wordstock”- but, ah well, these are the joys of a democracy.
I am going to host our first meeting, so I get complete control over the book choice. Complete control feels real good.
We’re going to read MATCHED by ALLY CONDIE.
“For Cassia, nothing is left to chance--not what she will eat, the job she will have, or the man she will marry. In Matched, the Society Officials have determined optimal outcomes for all aspects of daily life, thereby removing the "burden" of choice. When Cassia's best friend is identified as her ideal marriage Match it confirms her belief that Society knows best, until she plugs in her Match microchip and a different boy’s face flashes on the screen. This improbable mistake sets Cassia on a dangerous path to the unthinkable--rebelling against the predetermined life Society has in store for her. As author Ally Condie’s unique dystopian Society takes chilling measures to maintain the status quo,Matched reminds readers that freedom of choice is precious, and not without sacrifice.”
I had known I wanted this to be my first pick since I read it earlier this month, so imagine my excitement when I saw a poster at Costco yesterday announcing that they will be hosting a book signing with Ally Condie next Saturday the 19th at 1pm. (DID YOU CATCH THAT, MAEGAN? YOU HAD BETTER COME WITH ME!) I will be buying a copy that you bibliobabes can borrow to read… or you can buy your own if you feel so inclined. I was on the hold list for months to read it at the library, so that’s not the best option this time.
For future BB choices, the Provo Library at Academy Square has a great BOOK CLUB SETS PROGRAM- we can reserve books from an extensive list. They come with 15 copies (too bad we don’t have 15 members) and a guide with questions for our meeting. When we meet the first time, let’s try to plan who wants to host each month so everyone can plan ahead for reading material.
I hope I haven’t missed anyone, but these are the bibliobabes so far.

I’m sure we will grow over time, because book club is going to be so HELLA fun! We can all invite friends, of course, as long as they are aware of the “promiscuous” reading policy :) If they want to avoid swearing and such… this won’t be the club for them.
FIRST MEETING… My house on Wednesday April 6 at 7pm. I already have ideas for food and other fun stuff so get your copy of the book (or come get mine!) and get ready!
Oh my gosh - so excited! And no, I hadn't heard about the Costco signing. Guess I better get my copy back from the friend I loaned it to :)
ReplyDeletemaybe I will join your book club. I love Ally, she is my cousins friend and is totally awesome. Very good choice of book!!
